Deliveroo has reached two billion orders across its global markets since the company was founded in 2013. The business reported that the milestone order was a chicken rice bowl from Chipotle in Paris.
The first order placed on the platform was a Margherita pizza from Rossopomodoro in Chelsea, which was delivered by the chief executive Will Shu. The company reached its one billionth order with a delivery from Wing Sing Restaurant in Hong Kong.
The one billionth order in the UK was a Meat Feast pizza from Papa Johns.
In celebration of hitting this milestone, Deliveroo released data that shows the cheeseburger is the most popular restaurant item globally. It holds the top stop in the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium and the UAE, although the Margherita pizza remains the most frequently ordered dish in Italy.
Meanwhile, grocery trends show four pints of semi-skimmed milk is the most ordered item globally, followed by bananas and cucumbers. In the retail sector, hydration sachets are the most popular product. Gloves also feature in the top 10 retail items, often purchased alongside hot chicken wings.
The company identified Belfast as the city with the highest number of order customisations in the UK, while residents in Bournemouth were found to order more extra sauce portions than any other British city.
That said, the most frequent customer is based in London and has placed more than 9,000 orders.
Miki Kuusi, chief executive of Deliveroo, said: “Reaching two billion orders is a huge milestone and I want to recognise everyone around the world who has played a part in getting us here. To all of our wonderful riders, our restaurant partners big and small, and of course our customers – thank you.”
