Compass Group UK and Ireland has launched Classroom to Careers, a skills and careers programme designed to help young people secure long-term employment.
The initiative combines the company’s early training frameworks to support teenagers who are not in education, employment, or training.
The project targets underperforming regions by offering food and support services pipelines to people from the age of 14.
The launch follows an interim report by government adviser Alan Milburn, which warned that youth unemployment figures could rise to 1.25m within five years.
The company plans to expand its cooking academy to 1,500 students and roll out virtual work experience modules to 3,500 schools by September 2026.
The firm is also supporting the government youth guarantee policy by delivering a six-week pre-employability course for individuals who have been unemployed for more than 18 months.
The scheme provides candidates with skills development alongside paid placements.
Kirsty Adams, people director of talent, leadership, learning and inclusion at Compass Group UK and Ireland, said: “The recent publication of Alan Milburn’s report is a sobering insight into the plight so many young people are facing as they look to enter employment. As one of the UK’s largest employers we know we have the ability to make a difference and provide that crucial first rung of the ladder, along with opportunities where people can thrive.
“Classroom to Careers is about breaking down barriers and showing young people what’s possible. By connecting education with real opportunities through programmes like our Junior Chef Academy and our new virtual work experience module – we’re helping young people gain skills, confidence and insight, while supporting our wider commitment to social mobility.”
