Derbyshire brewer and retailer, Buxton Brewery has appointed former Mowgli Street Food finance executive Matthew Peck as chief financial officer (CFO), as it lays out plans for expansion.

Peck joins the business bringing over a decade of senior financial leadership experience across high growth, multi-site retail and hospitality businesses.

The appointment comes as the business enters a new phase of expansion, having achieved more than £5m in turnover for the financial year, more than double of the previous year.

The independent brewer is targeting an aggressive expansion plan to hit a £10m turnover by 2028 through entirely organic growth. Following an acquisition by Happy Place Investors in 2024, the business is continuing to grow retailer sales as well as secure additional pubs and restaurant sites across the Peak District and surrounding areas.

Buxton Brewery chairman Lee McCarren said: “We’re delighted to welcome Matthew to Buxton Brewery at such an exciting point in our journey. Since acquiring the business in May 2024, we have more than doubled sales, and we are focused on building on that momentum in the months and years ahead.

“Matthew’s track record, combined with his deep understanding of what it takes to grow a brand with integrity, makes him the ideal person to help us achieve our next ambitious phase of growth. The experience and expertise he adds to our senior leadership team will make a very positive difference.”

Peck said: “I’ve always enjoyed being part of the journey of building and growing a business, and that’s what attracted me to Buxton Brewery. The opportunity to help grow something truly special was incredibly appealing.

“There is real ambition here, strong backing, and a product and brand that people love. I understand the foundations needed to support sustainable growth, and I’m looking forward to helping Buxton Brewery reach its full potential.”

With a workforce of around 40-50 employees, the business said it remains committed to creating jobs and investing in the local community as it continues its growth.
