Sodexo has secured a two-year extension to its contract at His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth with an annual value of £16m as part of the Ministry of Defence’s Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP).
Through 11 distinct contracts, the FMSP manages the upkeep of UK Naval Base equipment and infrastructure, ensuring Royal Navy personnel have access to improved onshore and offshore facilities.
HMNB Portsmouth houses close to two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface ships, employs more than 17,000 people and contains lodging facilities for service members working at the site and in Portsmouth-based ships.
The caterer said that since assuming the contract five years ago, it has made a series of changes to improve the lives of HMNB Portsmouth’s military personnel, such as retail facility enhancements and the launch of its Mindful Active Programme which provides health and wellbeing advice.
The company added that more broadly, it has started using more environmentally friendly chemicals, re-usable micro-fibre clots and mops to reduce waste along with its own WasteWatch data-driven food waste management programme.
Sodexo’s 300-strong workforce offers various essential services, such as cleaning, waste management, catering, retail, leisure activities, grounds maintenance and help desk support.
Mark Baker, COO of defence, government and energy at Sodexo UK and Ireland said: “The extension of this contract recognises our commitment to improvements in service delivery at HMNB Portsmouth. Through a strong focus on operational excellence, environmental responsibility and wellbeing support, our dedicated team has delivered outcomes that matter to military personnel at the base”.
