Ottolenghi has announced it will debut in Scotland with an opening on Edinburgh’s George Street, marking the brand’s expansion to its second UK city outside of London.
The new venue will be run by Scottish-born executive head chef Neil John Campbell, who has been with the company for the greater part of a decade.
The restaurant will offer Ottolenghi’s classic vegetable-led cooking, serving Scotland’s local produce in the brand’s “vibrant, flavour-driven” style.
Ottolenghi was founded as a small shop in Notting Hill in 2002 led by chefs Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi, acting as a food shop, deli, restaurant and bakery with no clear description.
The company evolved to focus on food based in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean traditions, but which also takes inspiration and ingredients from wider regions of the globe.
Since then, the company has gradually grown and Ottolenghi now has ten locations in and around London and as well as overseas in Geneva and Amsterdam.
Chef and founder Yotam Ottolenghi said: “We’ve been dreaming about opening in Edinburgh for years, at last the time is right. The city has a brilliant dining culture and access to incredible local produce – fish, seafood, and beautiful vegetables from across Scotland. Neil, our executive chef, is from here, so it’s made the whole thing feel special from the very beginning.”
