Hospitality family The Gladwins have opened their first pub-with-rooms with The Black Horse in Amberley, a 19th Century pub located near the family vineyard in the South Downs.
The Grade II listed building features 11 bedrooms and a restaurant with an open kitchen. It is the first site outside London for the group.
Owner Gregory Gladwin manages the family farm and Nutbourne Vineyards in Sussex, which provides meat, eggs, and wine for the pub. His wife, Lani Gladwin, provides flowers from the farm, while brothers Oliver and Richard Gladwin oversee the menu and guest experience respectively.
The interior, designed by Ellie Dichler, includes reclaimed antiques and locally made furniture. Materials used in the bedrooms include organic cotton and 100% British wool.
The menu focuses on seasonal produce sourced from the surrounding South Downs. Dishes include Maldon oysters with rhubarb mignonette, South Coast scallops, and roasts featuring beef and lamb from the family farm.
A garden menu features grilled skewers of monkfish and pork belly, alongside halloumi sourced from the High Weald Dairy. The venue will also host a weekly supper club offering a three-course dinner with wine pairings.
Chef Oliver Gladwin said: “The menu showcases the very best of seasonal Sussex.”
Gregory Gladwin added: “The opening of The Black Horse marks a true homecoming.”
